Brunei Darussalam is a small nation located on the island of Borneo and surrounded on 3 sides by Malaysia. Brunei is a major oil producer and enjoys the highest per capita income in the world as a result.

The Bruneian government has always been serious about the protection of wildlife and forests with specific legislation in place. New legislation covering the environmental impact of new projects and the environmental performance of existing operations is currently being introduced.

Given this background, the first conference covering Health, Safety and Environment issues was held in Brunei in July. Absorb's Managing Director – Phil Abernethy was invited to speak at this conference.

This was an honour to be a part of a select group of international and local speakers. Phil was the only environmental speaker and the level of interest in this area was significant. The number of questions resulted in the presentation going over allocated time.

We look forward to assisting Brunei Darussalam in its quest for better environmental performance.
