Environmental Trainers delivering Environmental education are senior environmental specialists with extensive skills within their respective industries and qualifications at graduate and post graduate levels, they also have experience in providing training and maintain a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Environmental Trainers providing Spill Response courses are all experienced in environmental spill protection and pollution control and have qualifications which at a minimum include Certificate IV in On-site Environment Management and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Phil Abernethy, Managing Director and Trainer
Phil Abernethy is an Environmental Educator and Consultant who developed Australia’s first Certificate IV in On-Site Environmental Management and Advanced Diploma of Environmental Management.
With a passion for the natural environment fostered from an early age, Phil is inspired to share his experiences and offer industry insight as part of his commitment to sharing environmental knowledge.
After graduating with a B.E. (Chem, Hons), M.B.A., and completing Post Graduate Studies in Environmental Impact Assessment, Phil had over three decades of experience in Chemical Engineering and providing Environmental Best Practice commissioning and operating Sugar Mills.
He established Absorb Environmental Solutions in 1996 and Absorb Training in 2009 and also founded the Institute of On-site Environmental Management.
Martine has assisted with the development of the Certificate IV in On-site Environmental Management and the Diploma of Environmental Management. She is responsible for assessments and maintaining academic standards for these courses.
Martine has over 18 years experience in the areas of hazardous materials, emergency response, environmental site remediation and training. She has developed numerous scientific courses including a specialized hazardous materials training course for the New South Wales Fire Brigades State College and courses on the use of field analytical instrumentation for government and industry responders across Canada and the United States.
She has managed various research projects on innovative emergency response systems and environmental site cleanups. She has presented technical reports at international conferences, including being a speaker at the NATO Course on International Environmental Disaster Operations in Rosersberg, Sweden. Martine was a field team leader during the Columbia Shuttle Disaster recovery efforts. In this program, she managed a team of 70 personnel and coordinated efforts with over 10 agencies including NASA, National Forest Services, and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Pevlin Price, Environmental Management Trainer and Assessor
Pevlin is an experienced management systems adviser and trainer He has over twenty years experience in training, physical risk management, and health and safety. During the last ten years he formalised his abilities with vocational qualifications in safety, environmental and quality management, and management systems auditing.
As an independent management systems adviser to the manufacturing sector he links workplace safety with 'Lean' and 'Clean' manufacturing concepts to assist organisations achieve compliance, self-improvement, and certification of their EMS, SMS or QMS. He also audits manufacturing processes to verify product conformance to various Australian Standards.
He has a service background in the Australian Army. Previously as a ‘regular’ he enjoyed varied roles including teaching and training management projects in Australia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. More recently as a Reservist he lectured in leadership and management, managed and delivered RABQSA training for OHS, Quality, and Environmental auditors, and currently has responsibilities for process improvement and reform.
He is an active environmental volunteer in his local area. This includes bushland conservation and regeneration, monitoring stream health, indigenous matters, and liaising with industry and developers on their stormwater and weed management.
He has been presenting and assessing training in EMS and systems auditing since 2006, and the Cert IV and Diploma courses for Absorb Training since early 2010.
Julie Dickson, Environmental Management Trainer and Assessor
Julie Dickson is an environmental auditor, trainer and consultant with over 16 years experience in environmental and OHS management across a wide variety of industries including gas, electricity and water utilities, waste management and civil and building construction. She is experienced in conducting accredited environmental management system training for a RABQSA accredited Training Provider. This training is a prerequisite for becoming a RABQSA registered auditor.
Over the past 16 years, Julie has worked in a hands-on capacity as an Environmental Advisor and Manager, and continues to work as a Consultant, Certification Auditor (EMS and OHS), Independent Environmental Auditor, Environmental Management System trainer (public courses), and as an internal environmental due diligence trainer. She has also presented guest lectures at UNSW and Macquarie University on environmental management.
Julie developed a strong interest in environmental management in her early university years, having taken one of the first environmental studies courses offered at Macquarie University in the late 1970s, and followed it up with a Master of Environmental Management in 1996. Julie is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with others and will be joining Absorb Environmental Solutions in 2013 as a trainer.
Irma Gerridzen, Environmental Management Trainer and Assessor
Irma Gerridzen has over 20 years experience in Environmental Management, both with local and state government, and the private sector. This included environmental imapact assessment with the NT Department of Environment, the NSW EPA and the QLD EPA. She also worked for the Gold Coast City Council as Environmental Management Systems Coordinator and for Darwin City Council in waste management.
Irma is orignally from the Netherlands, where she worked in contaminated land management prior to moving to Australia permanently in 1996.
Currently, Irma works as an HSEQ consultant, developing & implementing Environmental, WHS and Quality Management Systems, conducting audits and delivering training.
Andrew Thornhill, Environmental Management Trainer and Assessor
Andrew is an experienced and engaging trainer, with eight+ years delivering Nationally Recognised environment, risk, audit and compliance management courses. Andrew's training and broad work experience with government and industry enables him to provide participants with highly relevant workplace examples.
Andrew has expertise in the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001/ AS4801 and ISO 31000 Standards and the expectations of Certification Bodies, having worked as a Certification Auditor for over ten years across a range of industrial and Goverment clients. Andrew has coached and supported many Organisation's to acheivement of ISO Certification.
Andrew's prefessional objective is to provide risk and compliance solutions that are clear, practical and integrated into standard practice.
Rob comes to us with a broad wealth of experience in the training field, having previous roles as a trainer in the military and within the VET sector.
Rob began his training and assessing experience as a military driving instructor as part of over 20 years service in the Army. Rob’s previous VET training was as a trainer/assessor conducting training and assessment in Transport and Logistics. This also involved the development of training and assessment tools to support these activities.
In addition to assisting in the development of new course and the delivery of training in Absorb Basic, Plus and NRT, Rob will be your point of contact for Spill Response Training Bookings in the Queensland region.
